Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa

Imagine you’ve just arrived on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand, the weather is perfectly warm, you’re surrounded by lush green gardens and jungle, and the sound of the turquoise waves washes a sense of peace and tranquility over you. You’ve come to spend a week at Kamalaya Koh Samui Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa and it feels like heaven on Earth.
Founded by John and Karina Stewart, Kamalaya Koh Samui is a multi-award-winning Wellness Sanctuary for transformation born out of their desire to serve and inspire others to create a better world through wellness. In Sanskrit Kamalaya means Lotus (Kamal) Realm (alaya), which symbolizes the unfolding of the human spirit. The combination of John’s 16 years of experience living as a yogic monk in the Himalayas and Karina’s lifelong study of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Asian healing traditions blends perfectly together to create today's beautiful Sanctuary on the southern coastline of Koh Samui.
Experiencing Kamalaya
Guests begin their journey at Kamalaya with a personal consultation with a wellness expert to address their specific needs and create a custom program to support their inner healing and health goals. Kamalaya offers 17 wellness programs with categories including Healthy Lifestyle, Detox & Reset, Stress & Burnout, Cultivating Body Heart & Spirit, and Taste of Kamalaya (3-day programs). Guests can also work with the team of experts to deepen their understanding of personal well-being through functional health testing while staying at the Sanctuary. There is truly something for everyone at Kamalaya whether you’re there to rest and relax or jump into a yoga, Qi Gong, or Tai Chi class.
“Kamalaya’s approach to wellness is flexible, it is neither prescriptive nor regimented, inclusive rather than exclusive, giving guests the freedom to co-create an enriching experience that organically reconnects them to the healer and visionary within.”
The philosophy at Kamalaya is “to serve and inspire with truth, simplicity, and love.” One thing that sets Kamalaya apart from other wellness retreats is the East meets West flexible and synergistic approach to reconnect people to life’s potential and help them achieve optimal well-being. The blend of ancient Eastern healing modalities and traditions with cutting-edge Western medicine offers their guests a holistic best of both worlds. Choice and co-creation are at the foundation of the wellness sanctuary because they know that true authentic healing must come with autonomy and that each individual has different needs and moves at their own pace.
“True healing comes from acceptance, not resistance. Support, advice, and inspiration are always on offer, but it’s the guests’ innate wisdom that guides their experience.”
The Wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa
Kamalaya offers 70+ therapies and treatments from both Eastern and Western traditions. The 50 certified wellness professionals on-site range from naturopaths and doctors of Traditional Chinese Medicine to Western medical doctors, Ayurvedic and Thai therapists, yoga, meditation, pranayama teachers, and more. The beautiful land that Kamalaya resides on is integrated throughout the sanctuary through open-air treatment spaces and beautiful views at each accommodation. Connecting with nature is an important part of the healing journey at Kamalaya.
Our favorite feature at Kamalaya is the cave that the property is centered around. This cave was used for centuries by Buddhist monks as a meditative retreat. The cave holds special and ancient healing energy and guests are welcomed and encouraged to use the sacred cave for meditation and inner reflection.
“Nature is an ever-present part of the Kamalaya experience, a sensory symphony that nourishes and nurtures. Beyond the improvements in health and wellbeing, the synergistic Kamalaya experience seems to take people effortlessly and spontaneously to unexpected levels of self-discovery and awareness.”
Everyone deserves the peace, tranquility, and deep connection to self that Kamalaya evokes in their guests. Time to pack your bags (even if only in your imagination) and channel your inner healer as Kamalaya Koh Samui has inspired us to do.
