Fox Point Farms, located in Encinitas, recently opened its doors as one of Southern California’s most exciting agrihood developments. This innovative community is designed to prioritize the well-being of its residents through a holistic approach that blends sustainable living, farm-to-table dining, and a collaborative artisan ecosystem. Centered around a three-acre regenerative farm, Fox Point Farms fosters an environment where nature, agriculture, and community thrive together. The development, which will eventually include 250 homes, offers a lifestyle built on connecting residents not just to the land, but to local food systems and each other.
One of the most unique aspects of Fox Point Farms is the way the community integrates regenerative agriculture directly into everyday life. The farm produces a variety of seasonal crops, which are not only available to residents through a CSA program but are also featured prominently in the on-site restaurant, Haven, which opened in August. Haven, a 120-seat farm-to-table restaurant, is committed to serving dishes made with ingredients grown just steps away, reinforcing the community's emphasis on sustainability and local sourcing.
The Healthy Home Media team had the pleasure of visiting Haven, and the dining experience lived up to the farm-to-table promise. We started with the Shishito Hummus—an incredibly fresh and flavorful starter. The Farmers’ Pasta, with potato gnocchi and cremini mushrooms was both hearty and perfectly balanced. We also enjoyed a risotto prepared with the local catch, further showcasing the freshness and quality of ingredients sourced directly from the farm.
Beyond its culinary offerings, Fox Point Farms embodies a vision of creating an interconnected artisan community where residents, farmers, and artisans collaborate to foster a sustainable and enriching lifestyle. From workshops at Hatch to wellness programming and local artisans producing unique goods, the community is built around the idea of circularity, where resources are used thoughtfully and partnerships form naturally.
To gain more insight into the vision behind Fox Point Farms, we reached out to Brian Grover, founder and managing partner of Nolen Communities, to discuss the community’s goals and future projects.
Now that Fox Point Farms is established, how does it compare to your original vision for creating an artisan-crafted community? The response from the greater community—San Diego locals and beyond—has been overwhelmingly positive. Every weekend, the farm is packed with visitors, creating this incredible energy that’s exactly what I envisioned and more. It's been wonderful to see how people have embraced the space—not just as a destination but as a part of their own community experience.
My vision of building an interconnected artisan community is taking shape but creating a self-sustaining ecosystem takes time. We're constantly learning—whether it’s about harvest yields, how to optimize growth, or figuring out how one artisan’s waste can fuel another’s production. While we’ve made great strides, this kind of balance requires more than just opening doors; it requires ongoing collaboration and adaptation.
Can you talk about the collaboration between artisans, farmers, and residents? How do they contribute to the micro-economy and overall community experience? The core idea behind Fox Point Farms has always been to create an ecosystem where hyperlocal businesses and individuals are connected, forming a true circular economy. Our artisans, farmers, and residents each play a vital role in this. For example, we grow produce on the farm, which is then harvested and packed right here on-site before being sold at our farm stand, bundled into a CSA box and delivered to residents’ doors, or used by our restaurant.
It’s a seamless, local lifecycle that reduces waste, fosters sustainability, and strengthens connections between everyone involved.
We’re incredibly excited for more neighbors to move in as the homebuilder nears completion on the residential side. Speaking as someone who lives here with my family, I see firsthand how collaborations naturally occur, whether it’s neighbors picking up fresh produce or artisans working together on projects. You just feel like you’re a part of something larger—a community where every action, every partnership contributes to the overall experience and sustainability of the whole.
How has regenerative agriculture at Fox Point Farms impacted the community’s connection to local food systems? With most food in the U.S. traveling hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to reach our plates, there’s a disconnect from its origins, not to mention the carbon emissions that come with it. By shortening that distance and fostering transparency about where ingredients are coming from– whether that’s our own fields just steps away or a local farm up the road– we’re helping people appreciate the work that goes into growing food. Personally, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of what regenerative farming truly means—the meticulous planning and care it requires, as well as the benefits of eating nutrient-dense, pesticide-free food.. It’s about giving back to the land rather than exploiting it, creating a system that’s better for the planet and our community.
How do gatherings at Hatch, such as events or workshops, help residents connect with one another and develop new skills? At Hatch, we aim to create opportunities that are both approachable and enriching, while introducing participants to sustainable living. For example, our wellness programming, like sound bath sessions and sunrise yoga, offers accessible ways to incorporate mindfulness into daily routines, while apothecary workshops, hosted in partnership with our Heal Botanics artisan, explore healing and holistic health practices.
We’re especially excited about our kid-centric programming, which teaches the fundamentals of regenerative agriculture and local food systems. These gatherings build a community rooted in education, shared experiences, and a resilient way of living by empowering people to connect and learn new skills.
Looking ahead, what new projects or initiatives are you planning to further strengthen the Fox Point Farms community? We have so many exciting things in the works! One of the most anticipated developments is the addition of farm animals, which will play a crucial role in advancing our sustainability and circularity goals. For example, manure will be used to enrich our soil, while leftover grain from our brewery will help feed the chickens. It’s all about creating that closed-loop system where nothing goes to waste, and everything serves a purpose. We’re also expanding our culinary options with a taco stand, launching in the next month. Our programming is expanding too, with initiatives like a guest chef series at Haven, to kids camps and gardening classes, along with family-friendly holiday happenings.
At the heart of everything is the farm itself—guiding new dishes, seasonal beers, and soon, our own coffee beans, which will allow Fox Point Roasters to become a fully in-house operation. We’re also cultivating an herb garden with Heal Botanics that will yield both functional and medicinal plants, opening up new possibilities for wellness-driven creations.
Stay tuned as these things come into the fold!
Fox Point Farms is more than just a neighborhood—it's a model for how modern developments can integrate wellness, sustainability, and community living.
