Kelly was great! She was very in tune to what we were looking for. We had pretty specific criteria for our house and she continued to work hard to find the perfect house for us given all the things we were looking for. She was knowledgeable while allowing us space to make the best decision for us.

An Interview with

Kelly Steyn

Q1 - Hey!  Thanks for taking the time to be here.  Can you start by sharing a little bit about yourself and your business?

Sure! My name is Kelly Steyn and I've been in the real estate industry my entire career. I'm currently a Realtor and Sales Manager of a team with Keller Williams. We focus on Philadelphia region, both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Q2 - I love learning about how people began as a real estate agent because our stories are always so different.  What was the inspiration or reason you decided to get into real estate?

I've always been passionate about homes and helping others, so it seemed like a natural fit! As a teenager, I thought I would get into interior design, but I learned that I enjoy construction and the guts of a home more than design. In my early twenties I started in title insurance then transitioned into new construction home sales. I learned a lot being in the industry during the 2000's recession and I think ultimately gave me a really good foundation on how to run a business. In 2010 I became a Realtor and have been working full time in sales since then. Gradually, my personal growth as an advocate for the environment has integrated into my business, which has been really cool.

Q3 - What services do you offer? And why did you choose to offer those particular services?

I focus primarily on residential sales in the Pennsylvania suburbs. I have a niche in helping seniors with downsizing and moving to their next destination- whether that's locally or somewhere outside PA. I helped my parents with this transition in 2013 as well as a few other clients that year and realized that I really enjoy helping them through the process of getting the home ready and narrowing down a great new community to enjoy a more low maintenance lifestyle. Shortly after I became a designated Senior Real Estate Specialist through NAR. I also have my GREEN designation and that comes in handy for clients on fixed incomes, but also all homeowners!

Q4 - Can you recall a challenging client or situation that you were able to fix or overcome?  How did you fix it?

I feel like every other transaction has a challenge! Hahaha! I really am the calm and collected person with my clients and the other party during a transaction, even if I'm not as calm on the inside. There really isn't a challenge I haven't seen over the last 13 years, so I've learned to take deep breathes and focus on a solution, not the problem. The solution may be calling in a favor from a vendor, compromising on a credit or running down to the township building myself and grabbing a document that's needed.

Q5 - What have you learned about yourself and your business over the years?  How has your business changed to adapt to changing buyer and seller needs?

That's a good question. I've learned that I really have a passion for learning. In my teens and even in college, I didn't really enjoy classes and reading. But now, I can't get enough of it! In fact, right now I'm taking an online class about healthy materials. Through constantly learning and growing, that's only improved my sales and relationships with clients. The industry is always changing and being on top of those changes gives me a leg up against other agents.

Q6 - Real estate is not easy.  If you could go back in time what advice would you give yourself?

Don't be scared to pick up the phone. My business took a little longer than some agents to get a good foundation because I was scared to pick up the phone and ultimately, scared of rejection. Now, it's just part of the job and I'm OK with it.

Q7- We've all had amazing clients or stories to share that make being an agent all worth it.  Can you share a story about a teammate, vendor or client that really impacted you and touched your heart?

In the very competitive and fast paced market we've been in since 2020, every time my buyer client wins an offer, it's truly a reminder of why I keep doing this. The buyers in this market are ones that really want to be homeowners and are often trying to find a forever home to live in to raise their family and create memories. Homeownership is really a blessing and I'm honored to be a part of the journey.

Q8 - If a potential client were reading this article, what would you tell them about you, your team or your business that would convince them to choose you?

Oh, great question! If anyone were to read my reviews, you'll learn that I work hard for my clients! Their goal is my goal. I'm honest and hard working. My team provides a lot of service on the backend such as marketing and administrative assistance which gives me the ability to give full time and attention to my clients. We are a team of genuine people that love real estate and helping people achieve their dreams.

Q9 - Fun fact about yourself that people may not know.

For a short period of time, I was an executive assistant to a yacht broker. It was pretty cool since selling a boat is similar to selling a property, just on water!

Q10 - Where do you see your business going in the next 5 to 10 years?

I really want to get my Kelly's Healthy Home consult business running in the next few years. I'm still doing a lot of education and working on the business plan. I plan to have that fully up and running within 3-5 years. Within 10 years, I'd love to have a few healthy and efficient rental properties in my local community.

We enjoyed learning so much about you and your business.  How can people learn more or get in touch with you?

The best way is to call or email directly- 484-343-2406 or Kelly@Phillyliving.com. Also, please follow me on instagram for some real estate tips and healthy home ideas @KSRealEstate.
